Petrescu to take Russian challenge - reports
  Posted On: 28-12-2009 422 Views

BUCHAREST - Dan Petrescu said on Monday he was considering several offers following his surprise departure from Unirea Urziceni, as Romanian media reported he was set to take over at Russian second division side Kuban Krasnodar.

Romanian sports website Sport.ro said the Russian club had offered Petrescu a five-year contract and a salary of 1.5 million euros per season, which they said would treble his wage at Unirea.

"Right now I have several offers but I have yet to accept any," Petrescu said at a news conference on Monday. "I do hope I will take the best decision for me and my family."

Petrescu, the former Chelsea defender, departed Unirea by mutual consent on Saturday after transforming the team from rural Romania into domestic champions.

Petrescu led Unirea to third place in Group G on their Champions League debut this season and they will face Liverpool in the last 32 of the Europa League in February.

Unirea, second in the Romanian league, level on points with leaders CFR Cluj after 17 games, were looking to appoint national team coach Razvan Lucescu as their new manager, Romanian media said.
