Everton end barren home spell against Burnley
  Posted On: 28-12-2009 440 Views

LIVERPOOL, England (AFP) - – Everton won at Goodison Park for the first time since September as they beat 10-man Burnley 2-0 here on Monday, a result that made it nine Premier League games without a win for the visitors.

Substitute James Vaughan struck seven minutes from time for David Moyes's men following Marouane Fellaini's cross before South Africa's Steven Pienaar added a second goal in stoppage time.

By that stage Burnley had long been a man down against their Lancashire rivals after defender Stephen Jordan was sent-off for a second yellow card midway through the second half.

Victory saw Everton climb five points away from the relegation zone.

Yakubu went close for Everton early on, his shot hitting the post and Burnley keeper Brian Jensen then had to make a diving save to deny Russian midfielder Diniyar Bilyaletdinov.

But come the hour mark Burnley were still very much in the game only for Jordan to get himself dismissed for a reckless tug on Pienaar's shirt.

Nevertheless, it looked as if the Clarets would hold out for a point only for Everton to break the deadlock in the 83rd minute.

Pienaar's back-flick fell to Fellaini, whose centre was missed by Yakubu but the ball came through to Vaughan at the far post and the striker scored his first goal of the season.

Yakubu then proved a better provider than finisher by setting up Pienaar.
